PACKAGING OPERATOR I: 5 YEARS + IN POSITION- Hay/ Salary Grade- 8

PACKAGING OPERATOR II: 90 DAYS- 5 YEARS IN POSITION- Hay/ Salary Grade- 7

PACKAGING OPERATOR III: ENTRY- Hay/ Salary Grade- 6

 

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

 

Performs inspections for product quality and periodically monitors packaging equipment to maintain packaging efficiencies.

Support the review, understanding and compliance of all programs, policies and procedures contained in the Food Safety and Quality Management System.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Inspects the pouches for seal integrity, proper pouch codes, bad seals, creases, rips, tears, puncture marks/holes, and product quality using set quality control guidelines/standards. Insure that cases are properly indexed prior to sealing. Monitor sealed cases to insure they are sealed by performing case seal integrity tests and monitoring case codes for legible codes. Hand applies labels in preparation of up coming productions. Cleans and maintains packaging area and equipment to meet all GMP guidelines set for a food manufacturing facility.

                                                 

  1. Assist batch operators with raw material pre-staging, reprocess, and rework. Assist in the cleaning of pre-staging totes, tools, and pre-staging areas,

 

  1. Periodically monitor packaging equipment settings for accuracy, replenishing consumables (I.E. glue and fiber) as needed to maintain efficiencies.

                                                 

  1. Work in conjunction with new customer requirements with relation to product labeling and carton configurations.

 

  1. Performs other duties as needed or assigned by supervisor

POSITION DIMENSIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

Internal Contacts:

            Production Manager, supervisor, packaging crew lead, sauce batch and filler operators, QC/QA

 

External Contacts:

            None

 

Education Level and Focus:

            High school diploma or equivalent preferred

 

Years and Type of Related Experience Required:

            Production line experience preferred

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Interpersonal and Communication:

            Ability to function with minimal supervision including the capacity to follow verbal and written instruction, team player, ability to speak and write English

 

Technical and Analytical:

            Ability to count accurately, attention to detail

 

Administrative and Operations:

Ability to read labels and codes on boxes and product. Understand and follow all company policies and procedures.

 

Physical Demands:

            Agile, ability to stand for long periods of time, reaching, periodic lifting of 40+ lbs, stretching, bending, pulling, pushing

 

Work Environment:

            Food plant, cold, hot and humid conditions, wet floors, high noise levels, forklift and pedestrian traffic

 

Special Equipment Used:

Label machines, thermometers, various packaging machines, communication radios.
