Summer Product Development Intern

Department: Consumer Insight & Innovation
Location: San Carlos, CA

Kagome’s goal is to develop innovative ideas and procedures that benefit our company, customers, & society, and promote Kagome’s reputation and integrity.  We are a team of people that support Kagome’s business goals, programs and procedures that achieve company goals and directives as well as support the review, understanding and compliance of all programs, policies and procedures contained in the Food Safety and Quality Management System.

 

POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

This summer, we are looking for a detailed oriented college level student who is organized, efficient, has good communication skills, highly independent, willing to learn and assist Food Scientist, Executive Chefs and Senior Scientists at Kagome. It is a perfect opportunity for students looking for a summer experience in food product development. 

 

Under guidance of the R&D team, you will be able to

  • Engage and become partial owner of the projects you assist with  
  • Develop an understanding of product development, processing and QA/QC operations in a cross functional team 
  • Provide valuable technical support to service other departments
  • Assist with new ingredient sourcing, screening, evaluation, qualification 
  • Assist with preparation of samples for customers
  • Assist with setting up sensory tests and gathering data  
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Ingredient, Nutritional and Packaging Specifications
  • Assist in preparation and attend Culinary Presentations
  • Assist with plant trials and product commercialization

POSITION DIMENSIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education Level:

Junior or Senior college level (60 units or more)

Currently pursuing a degree in Food Science, Nutrition or related field

Academic knowledge on general food science, food safety, and/or food microbiology is a plus

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Administrative and Operations:

Computer Skill using various MS Word and Excel. 

 

Physical Demands:

Sitting at a computer terminal, standing, and walking for long periods of time. 

Work Environment:

Working in both an office environment and food technology lab with moderate noise levels. May be exposed to some food related chemicals.  In plant will be exposed to food processing environment with changes in temperatures, damp conditions. Some lifting and prolonged standing required

Special Equipment Used:

A valid driver’s license will be required.

Analytical equipment.

Kitchen and pilot plant equipment.

Personal computer (specific experience with Excel, Word & PowerPoint)

General office equipment; fax, copier, phone etc.
