Automatic Packer Operator

Department: Production
Location: Los Banos, CA


With relation to current production schedule, will assist production floor leads in coordinating crew assignments 

and ensuring position rotation throughout shift, setting equipment parameters and performing various product 

quality inspections. Employee will be responsible for the day to day operation and upkeep of the Automatic packer and conveying system.  Maintain effective communication with production supervisor, production line lead, operators, packaging and QC personnel.

Support the review, understanding and compliance of all programs, policies and procedures contained in the Food Safety and Quality Management System.

1. 35% Startup, setup, operate and monitor packaging equipment: automatic packer, conveying system, palletizer, carton former and sealer in accordance with specific product MSP. Assist floor leads in coordinating crew assignments and ensuring position rotation throughout shift. 


2. 30% Inspect safety features on machines and report any safety hazards to shift supervisor. Complete end of shift and/or end of run packaging reports in accordance with SOPís.  Complete weekly sanitation tasks and documentation in accordance with SSOPís.  Assist floor leads in ensuring packaging crewmembers follow GMPís and plant safety rules. Monitor glue levels, manually labeled pouches and cases, and fiber usage for cost reduction and to minimize downtime and loss of production.  Employee shall ensure completion and turn in all associated paperwork at the end of their shift.


3. 25% Packer operator shall assist floor lead with relieving packaging crewmembers and forklift drivers for breaks, and meal periods. Assist floor leads with on the job training for new and temporary employees. Thorough shift pass-down will be required with oncoming operators.


4. 10% perform other duties as needed or assigned by supervisor

Education Level and Focus:  

 High School diploma or equivalent preferred


Years and Type of Related Experience Required:  

 Two years production line and forklift experience preferred




Interpersonal and Communication:  

 Ability to function with minimal supervision, including the capacity to follow verbal and written instruction, team player, ability to speak and write English.  Ability to direct crew members to achieve efficiencies and maintain open communications


Technical and Analytical:  

 Ability to count accurately, attention to detail


Administrative and Operations:  

 Ability to read labels and codes on boxes and product


Physical Demands:  

 Agile, ability to stand for long periods of time, reaching, bending, lift 40+ lbs, pushing, pulling, stretching


Work Environment:  

 Food plant operating 24 hours a day 5-6/days a week, cold, hot and humid ambient conditions, wet/dry floors, high noise levels, moving machinery, forklift and pedestrian traffic


Special Equipment Used:  

 Forklift, thermometers, scales, case forming and sealing machines, palletizer, glue pots and machines, case packer, tape sealing machines, label machines.  Communication radios
