Information Systems Manager

Department: Process Engineering
Location: Los Banos, CA


Manage the planning, evaluation, design, development, and implementation of information systems. Evaluate and recommends hardware and software solutions, MIS flow, projects, priorities, and budget. Assumes responsibility for telecommunications, local/wide area network (LAN/WAN), and staffing as needed.


Support the review, understanding and compliance of all programs, policies and procedures contained in the Master Food Safety and Quality Management System.



Act as the primary support person responsible for analyzing, troubleshooting, and solving the company's internal help desk scenarios. Develop “Self Help” tools to reduce the need for day-to-day interaction with minor issues. Provide back-up support for our production process engineer as it relates to increasing PLC and automation systems within our LB manufacturing environment. Develops software applications to interface with existing systems as well as future MES applications with the creation of a user “Dashboard”.


Advanced proficiency with Adobe Coldfusion development software to continue to support existing applications as well as develop new business applications.


Working with all levels of management and computer users, take accountability for IT issues; asses, diagnose, and resolve problems. Escalate issues if necessary and keep the user informed of the status of the problem and solution.

Triage incoming problems that come into an email box or phone line and create problem tickets in I.T. problem tracking system. 


  • Champion the commitment to safety, security, environmental and quality priorities and values throughout Kagome I.T. related projects.
  • Develop, document, maintain, support and improve application software used to improve project productivity as directed by management.
  • Attend user meetings to gather business/software requirements and negotiate functional capabilities of solutions.
  • Assist in the development of user requirements documents and software, design documents to capture critical details to support and maintain any custom-developed applications.
  • Assist in testing versions and prototypes and use to test application concepts with users
  • Utilize programming skills in the Windows environment –use well-established developing software and SQL Server.
  • Apply advanced application software development principals to assure security of developed software.
  • Test/debug applications and facilitate testing by end users.
  • Produce end user documentation as required.
  • Respond to end user bug reports and end user enhancement requests to improve applications.
  • Assist in developing interfaces between mission critical systems and automate manually performed tasks.
  • Assist in testing of infrastructure upgrades and modify custom software as required.
  • Assist with special ad-hoc queries and custom reports as needed to obtain special data subsets.
  • Assist in resolution of vulnerabilities identified in software or underlying infrastructure.
  • Comprehend and apply user work processes and requirements.
  • Participate in discussions regarding tradeoffs between desired functionality, development time, and software maintainability.
  • Become knowledgeable with Macola and the ability to interface other applications to it. Become a resource with its capabilities and assist with all of its attributes. Share knowledge base with other I.T. team members.
  •  Manufacturing network support. May need to be flexible and adjust working hours to support critical business needs.
  •  Involve with manufacturing network development.
  •  Be involved with Disaster recovery and help manage compliance to data and systems recovery.

Education Level and Focus:

                Bachelor’s degree in related field. Master’s degree is a plus.

Years and Type of Related Experience Required:

A Minimum of 5 years experience


Interpersonal and Communication:

Demonstrate ability to communicate well and to effectively influence and interact with others to accomplish research goals.

Must have proficient technical and business writing skills as well as professional communication skills, both written and oral.

Technical and Analytical:

Analytical, Chemical and microbiological knowledge and experience in formulation, laboratory, sensory analysis techniques/methods.

Administrative and Operations:

                Organize job responsibilities to complete work on a timely basis.

Computer Skill using various software used for product development.

Travel Requirements:

Must be able to travel within the US 10% of time. Frequent travel from Los Banos to San Carlos may be required.

Physical Demands:

Sitting at a computer terminal, standing, and walking for long periods. May need to lift 25lbs.

Work Environment:

Working in both an office environment and food technology lab with moderate noise levels. May be exposed to some food related chemicals. In plant will be exposed to food processing environment with changes in temperatures, damp conditions. Some lifting and prolonged standing required

Special Equipment Used:

A valid driver’s license will be required. Laboratory analytical equipment.

Kitchen and pilot plant equipment.

Personal computer (specific experience with Excel, Word & PowerPoint) General office equipment; fax, copier, phone etc…).
