Operations Supervisor

Department: Operations
Location: Los Banos, CA

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

Assist in establishing and maintaining a profitable operation with a focus on safety, product quality, and line and labor efficiencies, cost reductions and yield improvements on all operationís materials. Operations Supervisor will instruct all new hires and provide training to all new sauce process personnel. Assist Production Supervisor I in writing and implementation of Process Training Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPís) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPís). Supervisor in training will learn the Process from beginning to end with periodic testing to ensure progression.

Support the review, understanding and compliance of all programs, policies and procedures contained in the Food Safety and Quality Management System.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Instructs and trains Line leads, Batchers, Fillers, Batch Relief, Bin Dump, Case-maker operators and packaging crew members in an instructor/trainer capacity.
  2. Follows and enforces GMPís, MSPís and Safety rules.
  3. Writes and implements process training procedures, SOPís and SSOPís.
  4. Reviews weekly and monthly production schedule and gives recommendations.
  5. Provides Management with cost-saving techniques.
  6. Provides weekly safety trainings for all sauce process personnel.
  7. Shall have daily breakout meetings with shift personnel at the beginning of the shift.
  8. Shall communicate plant goals that pertain to safety, quality and production.
  9. Training and self developing through study, research, and discussion to improve managerial skills and expand manufacturing expertise along with increasing development of direct reports and operational employees to instill promoting within the organization philosophy.
  10. Supervisor will participate in the HACCP Program.
  11. Responsible for Process Control documentation review and sign-off from beginning to end of each production run. 
  12. Attends production meetings, R&D meetings and participates in audit processes. 
  13. Understand and enforce recycling program.
  1. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Management.

 

POSITION DIMENSIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

Internal Contacts:

            Operations Manager, Operations Supervisors, QC/QA, production personnel, all

            Company personnel, various auditors.

 

External Contacts:

            Vendors, customers, contractors, auditors and regulatory inspectors.

 

Education Level and Focus:

AA or AS Degree Preferred. Minimum of 2 years college or equivalent combination of education and experience. Entry level Supervisor (supervisor in training) will be required to be in a training position for no less than 6 months and no longer than 12 months. At any time the Plant Manager or Production Manager decides the training Supervisor is not capable of the position and/or duties of the position the ďSupervisor in trainingĒ will be moved back to the previous position they held if the position is still available.

 

Years and Type of Related Experience Required:

Two years in a Leadership capacity, with emphasis on team building practices in a food-processing environment.

 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Interpersonal and Communication:

            Good written and verbal communications skills, ability to convey information

            clearly and concisely, ability to motivate people, strong training skills and a team

           builder. Able to follow through with instructions from Production Manager and

           complete reports of results.

 

Technical and Analytical:

            PC literate including word processing and spreadsheets. Experience with

            Mechanical and process problem solving.

 

Administrative and Operations: 

            Ability to prioritize time, delegate workloads, performs multiple tasks.

 

Physical Demands:

            Ability to stand for long periods, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, alertness

            To surrounding, ability to work various shifts, lift 50+lbs, bending stooping

            Pushing, pulling

 

Work Environment:

            Food plant, high noise levels, cold, hot and humid conditions, wet floors, forklift

            And pedestrian traffic.

 

Special Equipment Used:

            PC, process equipment and systems, forklift, communication radio
